Adam Loewen: A case of hyperabduction?

Below is a post I made in response to a question in the Guthrie thread asking about Loewen's injury. I can't really explain the elbow fracture as that is a rare type of injury that is generally unrelated to baseball, but I did find some stuff that could help explain his initial labrum tear. Hopefully I will be able to add more if I get access to some more material.

Loewen appears to be in the high cocked position at the time of landing, so timing isn't an issue here. I'd prefer his throwing elbow to be a little lower, and I don't like how he shows the ball to centerfield. There are a few small injury red flags, but his mechanics don't appear to be a problem here.

This was from the time he was first diagnosed with the fracture. The thing here is that his throwing elbow appears to be above shoulder level. If this is found in his delivery from previous pictures, it could help find the cause to his initial labrum tear.

Here is another picture from an unknown date that shows hyperabduction.

From a 2003 USA Today article. This shows a picture of Loewen pre-Orioles. His elbow appears to be at shoulder level, but it doesn't seem very dangerous. Also, he is showing the ball to 1b in this picture. This is a BIG maybe, but maybe something the Orioles had him do with his mechanics caused injury. I would need to see more pictures of him from this time before I can accurately make an assumption like that.

Another pre-Orioles shot. No major red flags here. Nice tilt to get into his overhand arm slot.
